About UWA

The University of Western Australia (UWA) is a leading Australian research university and has an international reputation for excellence, innovation and enterprise. A member of the Australian 'Group of Eight' research universities, it is also among Australia's leading research universities.

Sitting on the banks of the Swan River, the UWA Crawley campus is the oldest in Western Australia and among the most picturesque in the nation with its grand sandstone and terracotta buildings sitting among elegant heritage-listed gardens.

Highest Quality Graduates

UWA has the highest quality undergraduates of any university in Australia. This is underpinned by the fact that the proportion of UWA graduates accepted into full-time employment within five months of completing their course is the highest of all Western Australian universities and among the highest in Australia.

Coupled with this success is our high-quality intake of students. Western Australia's top-achieving school leavers choose to study at UWA as do high-calibre undergraduate and postgraduate students from around Australia and the world, particularly South-East Asia.

World-class Education

UWA is ranked second in Australia for the quality of its undergraduate programs. Our students benefit from the strong knowledge base and experience of teaching staff, many of whom have substantial international experience.

The University's strong foundation in research and teaching creates a scholarly environment which promotes the pursuit and rigorous critical interpretation of new information as well as the acquisition of knowledge.

Apart from regular delivery of information (lectures, tutorials, supervised research, field trips and student placements), the University also provides students with opportunities to apply their knowledge on collaborative projects with business, industry, government and the wider community.

UWA students are also involved in more than 75 student exchange or study abroad programs in north America, Asia and Europe.

All about UNSW

After 60 years of dynamic growth, UNSW student numbers have grown from 46 to over 42,000 with over 5,000 staff. The two Sydney campuses (Kensington and Paddington, College of Fine Arts) together with the University College at Canberra's Australian Defence Force Academy perpetuate an informal and lively tone with engaged students and offer a large range of facilities.

Campuses

The main campus occupies 38 hectares in Sydney's inner, south-eastern suburb of Kensington with modern, award-winning buildings that fit naturally within the peaceful outdoor surrounds. On-campus facilities include a 50 m heated indoor pool of Olympic standard; squash and tennis courts; sports ovals; shops; medical and optometry clinics and a variety of excellent bars and food outlets. Entertainment offers frequent plays, concerts, films, recitals and other cultural gatherings.

Minutes away from UNSW main campus, is the College of Fine Arts, one of the largest art schools in Australia (with a reputation to match). Located in the 'hip' Sydney suburb of Paddington, COFA is close to the IT and design centres in Surry Hills and East Sydney as well as the city's art galleries.

In Canberra, the Australian Defence Force Academy provides military and academic training simultaneously to midshipmen and officer cadets - the future leaders of the Australian Armed Forces. UNSW@ADFA supports the educational component of the Academy experience, offering programs in arts, business, engineering, science and technology.

Our vision

To be Australia's leading international research university with a reputation for excellence in scholarship, learning and the student experience. In 2009 we have over 9,000 overseas students, over 250 sister university partnerships and a growing number of close liaisons with industry, commerce and professions (nationally and internationally). Our programs are relevant to today's ever-changing world and our students are in touch with the demands of their chosen professions. Plus, we're a 5 star rated establishment.
